Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (born June 30, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York) is a famous singer and American actress. Despite francois halard having francois halard already recorded and done several performances with jazz musicians (notably Artie Shaw and Teddy Wilson), she is not considered a jazz singer by many music critics because never do improvisations at their shows. Currently she lives in New York City but hardly makes public appearances. Lena was married twice, first with Louis Jones (1937-1944) with whom he had two children and then with Lennie Hayton (1947 - 24th April 1971 when he passed francois halard away). Horne is also known for his contributions to the Civil Rights movement. In 1941, she sang at Cafe Society and worked with Paul Robeson, a singer who fought racial discrimination. During World War II, she refused to sing "segregated francois halard audiences or groups in which the Germans were ahead of the American army." Lena also worked with Eleanor Roosevelt. In 2003, ABC announced that Janet Jackson francois halard would star in a biography about the life of Lena Horne, but in the following weeks there was the famous incident with the garments of Jackson francois halard at the Super Bowl, however, Variety magazine said Horne was asked him to desist from Jackson Project. Oprah Winfrey stated to Alicia Keys during a 2005 interview in his "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that she could be considered to play Lena Horne. In January 2005, Blue Note Records, her label for more than a decade, anuncioui would place on the streets a collection of previously unreleased recordings made by legendary singer during his time at the label. Remixed by her longtime producer Rodney Jones, the recordings showed a secure voice for a woman of her age, including versions of "Something to Live For", "Chelsea Bridge" francois halard and "Stormy Weather." In 2007, Horne was portrayed by Leslie Uggams on her older and Nikki Crawford francois halard as the younger Lena stage in the musical "Stormy Weather" presented at the Pasadena Playhouse in California in 2009.
