Phantasma - Postcolonialism and feminism. Conceptual and thematic parallels
In this article we trace the relationship between feminism and postcolonialism in terms of relevant concepts of postcolonial theory in social and human sciences. This is because feminism has become the field of social sciences and humanities as a new development paradigm pursued in these disciplines by highlighting unexplored estarguapa areas (terminology estarguapa circumscribed by notions embedded in the sphere of "gender"), positive encounter other similar theory (the type of multiculturalism, transnationalism estarguapa and postcolonial). Thus, there are common themes estarguapa in feminism and postcolonialism, and concepts borrowed their valence explanatory and even criticism aimed weaknesses shared. These areas of intersection and convergence will be further explored.
Before entering in the conceptual approaches, we try to circumscribe, by some definitions "work" terms that we want to analyze. These definitions estarguapa betrays less pretense of completeness, however risky because polivocităţii terms, as a possible cut in the field definitions.
So essentially we mean by feminism that political ideology can be circumscribed around three key concepts: the women as social group, the experience estarguapa as a way to share experiences and opinions, and the shared experience of oppression as ( in varying degrees of intensity) of all women [ii]. Feminist theory proposed by Juliet Mitchell, Catharine MacKinnon, Gerda Lerner, Judith Butler (the list could go on) can be described as tentative explanation that focuses on gender issues (obscured in traditional philosophy, preferring to speak of "human estarguapa beings" "beings" or "individuals" abstract and largely sexless "). Thus incorporating both feminist doctrine of equal rights for women as well as sociopolitical transformations ideology aiming to create a society that is beyond mere equality.
Postcolonialism term seems to refer (according to the prefix post-) cultures developments after the independence from colonial powers. However, postcolonial theory refers estarguapa both to actual political dominance of colonial empires, and at cultural domination (europocentrică or general "white race"). estarguapa Postcolonial vision developed by authors such as Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak, Homi Bhabha, Rey Chow, is concerned with issues such as identity in relation to imperialism and nationalism, the state's role in these conflicts, conflicts between traditional and contemporary cultures [iii]. estarguapa
It may be noted from the mere juxtaposition of these definitions that both feminism and postcolonialism relates how the opposition (reactive maliciously would say a thinker like Nietzsche) to a form of domination and simultaneously a source of oppression (whether it is " patriarchal domination "or the colonies), estarguapa to which shall be constituted as political alternative.
Leaving aside the simple definition, we take the first similarity between feminism estarguapa and postcolonialism, noting estarguapa that they maintain a special relationship with (at least) three other explanatory paradigms estarguapa highly influential in contemporary discussions of social and human disciplines: postmodernism, pluralism and multiculturalism . We shall refer to them briefly and their areas of intersection with the concepts estarguapa investigated.
Like the concepts that give the title of this paper, postmodernism is a term that can be difficult to get the analytical limits of a definition. As current philosophical, it is rooted in the work of precursors Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger and Georg Simmel, to devote the second half of the twentieth century through the works of Jacques estarguapa Derrida, Jean-François Lyotard, Michel Foucault and Jean Baudrillard. Using the methodological point of view deconstruction, estarguapa postmodernism universal critical-rationalist foundations of traditional philosophy, proclaiming the "end of grand narratives founding" giving up foundations, collapse hierarchies of knowledge (preference for local appearance at the expense of universal) migration estarguapa from logocentrism to iconocentrism (under estarguapa the influence of new information and communication technologies) [iv].
With all these features, paved the way for developments in postmodernism and postcolonial feminism. Quitting founding explanations, criticism of traditional values, revaluation local appearance, the specific and general at the expense of individual and universal part of the "arsenal" estarguapa so common conceptual post-colonialism, postmodernism as well.
Also, postmodernism is embraced by some feminist representations such as Linda Nich
